Amana szd25mbl - very strange icemaker problem(s)

I have an Amana SZD25MBL fridge.

Several years ago, the hose/tube that fills the icemaker started pouring out water, and would not stop. It caused a leak all over the kitchen floor. Fortunately, it was caught before too much damage to the kitchen floor could be done.

I immediately shut off the water valve from the the wall to the fridge, and since then, I have been manually creating ice (for about 5 years).

Recently, I decided that I wanted to get my icemaker working again so that I could have automatic ice created. After doing some research, I determined that I had a faulty solenoid in the water inlet valve that was not stopping the flow of water to the icemaker and that’s what was causing the uncontrollable flow of water, and ultimately the leak.

I ordered a new water intake valve, and replaced it. Pretty easy. However, after several hours, the icemaker would still not fill with water. It seemed to me that the icemaker was not sending the signal to the solenoid to open up. I decided to let it stay for 24 hours, hoping that it would eventually start the cycle to fill the tray with water.

Finally water started coming, but once again, it didn’t stop! Huge mess in the kitchen again with all of the water. The entire freezer was dripping wet from this problem.

At this point, I figured that there is a problem with the icemaker - that it’s sending a signal to open the solenoid to allow water, but once it does that, the signal doesn’t stop, and the solenoid stays open. So I’ve ordered a new ice maker. It should be arriving in another day or so.

Here is the bizarre part. I disconnected the 4 wire plug from the icemaker, and then completely took the ice maker out of the fridge. I figured that with the icemaker disconnected and out of the fridge, there was no way for the solenoid to become activated, and therefore there was no way for it to allow the flow of water to the icemaker fill tube. I was wrong!!! This morning, again, with the icemaker completely out of the fridge, at some point, the icemaker tube again started pouring out water. Somehow, even without the icemaker unit in the freezer, the solenoid became actuated to allow the flow of water.

This makes no sense to me! Could it be an internal fridge wiring issue that’s actuating the icemaker solenoid? If the icemaker is not connected, how on earth is the solenoid becoming actuated?

Thanks for your help!
