compressor on and off

Compressor runs for about 7 seconds and shut offs (evap fan still running). A minute later, compressor runs again for about 7 sec. and repeats. What could be the prob?. I’m thinking the defrost timer is defected. how would i bypass it? or check it for sure? or is it the relay?
please help. thanks

It is not the defrost timer it is the overload and relay kit mounted to the compressor. Tom

is it the relay and overload (both) thats defected?

I would agree with icehouse, as much as it kills me. LOL!!! Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com

Hey, I hope all is well. The girls here are beating me up. But as good Bronx Boy, I say bring it on. Have a Happy New Year. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com

Just checked with Frigidaire, they have 31 of those capacitors in stock.

 The exact one you referenced. This is a replacement.
Goes on the same way the old one came off. "It ain’t rocket science."

 Tell me about it. I married a neighborhood princess.
And the rest of her family is in "Dyker Heights" Brooklyn.
Doesn’t get any better.

i replaced the relay and overload wit a supco-rco410 about 2 months ago. and its been running good til now. only the evap fan runs now. the comp dont even start up. do i have to replace it with another supco-rco410?

You could try it again, but the compressor could very well be gone. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com

aproxx how much would a new comp would cost?

This is a five cubic foot freezer? new on Frigidaire’s web site $249.00 The labor alone to change the compressor would be about that plus parts

i ohmed out my compressor. from ground to common, i have reading.(beeeP) from ground to start, i have reading.(beeep) and from ground to run, no reading.(no beeep)…is my compressor grounded?

Dude your compressor is locked up. You can’t read that on your meter. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com

locked up meaning grounded?

 Tom, are you loosing it. From "Ground" to any terminal and you are getting a reading (beep), the compressor is "Grounded"
Too much "Kayaking".

OK. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com
