dryer died

My dryer had a problem where the timer would not advance in anything but the timed cycle. I checked both inlet and outlet thermostats and timer resistor, all were OK. Then one day when I used it in timed mode, the dryer suddenly died completely halfway thru the cycle. The dryer will not respond to the start switch. Normally when in timed dry, you can hear the timer run when set past 0 even if the dryer itself is not started. But now the timer is completely dead, as is the whole machine. Yes, dryer has power cuz the door lite still works. I measured the resistance between the contacts for the timed dry mode; some of them read about 200 ohms rather than 0 when supposedly closed. I measured the resistance with the timer removed from the dryer. Do I need a new timer?
