Dryer smells like burning, won't start

I had just finished a load of clothes in the dryer and I went to put in another. The start button has been making a loud "uhhhhhhhhh" noise before it engages and starts, but it always has started. This time, however, it made the loud buzzing noise and failed to engage. The lights (start light & dampness meter light) worked when the button was pushed, the sound was loud, but nothing moved. I stopped pushing it when nothing happened and noticed a burning rubber smell. We unplugged the drier and plugged it back in and now when the start button is pushed the lights still come on but no sound happens. Now when pushing the start button no lights come on and no sound. Inside the barrel it also looks like a piece of the liner padding has slipped out from around the circular barrel…may be unrelated…What is the problem and is this an easy problem/cheap to fix?

I cannot really tell you much because yours is the type of problem one must be present to see and diagnose.

I suggest you open up the drye and see if you can determine the source of the problem. The service manual will help you out.
