Frigidaire gallery won't spin cycle

My 1993 Frigidaire gallery front loader does not advance to spin cycle. This washer (dryer stackable) is new to me but is a 1993 model! I think that towels were overloaded and created this mess. I’ve had estimates to repair…the cost is prohibitive. Trying to replace but the space is so small that a replacement would also be expensive and I believe an inferior product. Need to buy time with a fix if possible. One technician told me it was the timer…I’m skeptical after reading all the posts. Door locks fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!
