GE Dryer doesn't automatically stop

The gas dryer will not automatically stop drying on any cycle. It drys clothes just fine but we have to manually shut it off. We have tried both the timed cycle and automatic cycles, doesn’t seem to matter.

We are able to shut it off by either opening the door or turning the cycle knob to the off position.

Check across the motor windings when the unit is running.
If there is voltage and the timer does not advance then the timer needs replacing.

The timer motor voltage is probably 120 volts but may be 240.
Be very careful as there is 240 at the timer and this voltage is lethal.

I do not have access to GE wiring diagrams so cannot be more specific.
You may find the units wiring diagram in the control console as that is a favorite storage olace.
