My dryer is about 3 years old. It dries just fine. The only thing is, no matter what setting, timed or automatic, delicate, cotton, etc, the dryer will not shut off on it’s own. The timer or auto cycle never advance.
I’m thinking it’s probably either the timer itself or the resistor.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot before I go ordering parts I may not need?
My understanding is if it is a resistor problem, then only the automatic settings should not work and the dryer will continue running until stopped manually. In that case the timed cycles should work normally. If it is the motor in the timer itself, then none of the cycles (automatic OR timed) will advance to finish properly…may need a new dryer timer assembly.
To confirm that it is a timer problem set the unit mid cycle timed dry and then measuer across the timer motor connections.
If there is 120 volts and the timer does not advance then it is toast.
Be very, very careful when doing this as there is 240 volts at the timer and 240 volts is lethal !!!
