Maytag Dryer modal MGD5700TQ0. The timer stopped advancing in both timed and sensor modes. Assumed it was the timer itself that was bad so I replaced it. The new timer also will not advance. The dryer will shut off if I open the door or manually turn the timer to Off but even the new timer will not advance on it’s own.
What other issue could i have that will not allow the timer to advance?
Sounds like you got another bad timer. Try again.

My dryer’s heating element grounded out and the dryer timer would not advance as the timer was energized by the grounded electricity from the heating coil. The timer had a humming sound in it when it was turned to any cycle point but the start button was not pushed yet.
I don’t hear any buzzing or humming from the timer.
The timer knob does feel different physically when turning it. When the timer (old one) worked, there was some resistance/clicking when turning it to a setting. Once it stopped working, that resistance/clicking was gone and the resistance/clicking is also not happening with the newly replaced timer.
It’s a gas dryer, doesn’t have an electric heating element. If you have power to the drum drive motor, then you have power to the timer motor and it should advance.
