agitator(transmission) or thrust bearing kit?

[LEFT][FONT=Arial]on the wash cycle agitator grinds,shakes and is very noisey.it spins fine. my question is,could the whole trans be going bad or is a thrust bearing causing this .help! a.s.a.p. thanks[/LEFT]
