Amana ARB2107AS Stopped Cooling (Fridge & Freezer)

Hi All:

I’ve got an Amana ARB2107AS fridge (with freezer under) that just quit working yesterday (the freezer was totally defrosted and the refrigerator was just starting to warm up when I discovered the problem).

This unit was a gift from some friends who got a new fridge (we’re not the original owners) - it worked great up until yesterday.

The lights turn on, the fans are running in both refrigerator and freezer…it’s jut not getting cold (at all).

For a few weeks before this failure, I noticed that the freezer gasket was buckling in one area slightly and this was causing a slight build-up of ice right at the point where the buckle was located (didn’t seem to affect the overall temp in the freezer - we just tried to make sure the seal was good and tight).

The rest of the freezer wasn’t frosting over at all (no excess ice or anything like that - it was really clean and nice).

I’m assuming from doing some research that the compressor has probably gone out and I’d like to try and replace it (if that’s the root cause). I’d like to get a diagnostic workflow (troubleshooting steps) to isolate the root cause to the compressor (or some other ideas of what else to check - and how to check it).

I’m a techie so I’m pretty handy with a multimeter and have a friend who’s an HVAC repairman who can provide the refrigerant (if needed).

What I need is some guidance as to how to proceed with the troubleshooting from some experts

Many thanks in advance!
