Amana bottom freeze icing in strange place

Our fridge is about 10 years old Amana bottom freezer (model BRF20V1E). Every few months the fridge section will stop getting as cold as it should. The Freezer section works fine.

I remove the back of the freezer and find the areas where the air from the fridge is supposed to flow back into the freezer are blocked with ice (see photo). After removing this ice, the fridge works fine again. Coils are not iced. Evap fan works fine and is not iced. Vents are not blocked in fridge or freezer section (except by the ice).

Do you know what causes this kind of ice build up? Could it be related to the freezer door seal (see photo)?

BTW- I’m Hawaii so room air is warmer and more humid

Thanks very much for your advice!

Yes it could be due to the door seal.
It could be letting in an excessive amount of damp warm air.
At least that is the first thing I would fix/replace.

You could try warming it up with a hair dryer to see if you can get it back to it’s original shape. If it works then gice that side of the seal or unit’s frame a light coating of white lithium grease or vaseline. This often stops it from grabbing and twisting when closing.

If you cannot re-shape it replace it.
