Amana Dryer--Burner Ignites Gas But Then Gas Goes Out

Hello,

My Amana dryer does not function properly. I previously had a problem with it about 2 years ago and contacted your forum. It would glow orange and try to ignite the gas (I heard the click), but the gas would never burn. You helped me determine it was gas coil failure, so I ordered new ones from APP, replaced them, and the problem was solved. I waited awhile to put them in after ordering, so they have been in for probably about 1-1.5 years.

Now I am encountering a new problem with the same dryer. The problem started abruptly one day about a month ago. When turning on the machine, the orange glow comes, ignites the gas, and the gas burns for about 3-4 seconds before it goes out. When watching the gas, the gas flame seems like it flickers slightly outside the burner housing at the top. I'm not sure if this is normal or not, as I haven't routinely watched this procedure in the past to establish "the norm". I checked the exhaust vent and there is no obstruction. My book suggests issues could be the ignitor, the flame sensor, or intermittent/failed gas coils. I'm hoping it's not the latter, as those are pretty newly replaced.

I am a 30-something woman with almost zero appliance experience trying to learn DIY as often as I can. Step-by-step instructions with pictures work well with me, if that is possible. :)

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello lynkers, It sounds like the coils are the issue again on the unit. Make sure the gas pressure coming to the unit is good. If so, replace the coils on the unit.
