Amana side by side not cooling properly

I have a 14 year old Amana side by side that is not cooling properly on either side. The refrig side inlet air is 39 deg., the freezer side is 42 deg. I cleaned the condenser coil, the condenser fan runs Ok, I can hear the evap fan run. The compressor runs but the condensor coils are not warm. I noticed drips of water coming out of the bottom of the freezer door. Does this sound like it may be stuck in the defrost mode? Or is the refrigerant system defective (lost refrigerant)? Or, any ideas what the problem may be??

Is there frost on the rear panel in the freezer? If yes then most likely there is a problem with the defrost system.

If "no" then remove the rear cover in the freezer and check how the evaporator coil is covered with snow. If it’s not fully covered with light snow then most likely the sealed system is low on Freon or the compressor is not working properly.

Post the results.

Most likely there is a leak in the sealed system. Such problem has to be fixed by a certified technician and can be very costly.

There was no frost on the rear panel. I took the rear panel off, the evaporator had no snow on it, but there was a hunk of ice about the size of a tennis ball at the top of the evap. I have cncluded that the sealed system is defective. Does that sound right? The compressor will run, but shuts off.

if the compressor runs, but shuts off you may need to check the capacitor, relay and overload…
