Have had the fridge since new and its worked great. About six months ago it started "shorting" the ice cubes, not making the full tray. Then I changed the water filter and it started working fine again… for a while.
Then slowly it stopped totally. The icemaker itself works fine and I have been manually filling the tray with water and it pumps the cubes out. Problem is that the water for the ice is never making it to the ice tray.
In the old days you could hear the solenoid trigger and then you would hear the water would flow into the ice tray, but lately nothing happens, no sound at all.
So I go to a local parts place and they assure me that replacing the main water valve will fix things. So I put the new upgraded water valve into the fridge and guess what? No change what so ever. One thing that has always worked is that the water in the door is fine, just no water in the ice maker.
I do not have a service manual so have no idea where to go next. Am an aircraft mechanic so pretty good with my hands but sure could use some guideance. Would appreciate any help other than "keep switching out parts until its finally fixed" approach that my local parts house seems to like!
