I have an Amana washer ALW880QAW and I do not know how to get the agitator off. Mine looks different that the drawings. There is no center bolt/nut under the fabric softener cup, just a long needle like piece of plastic. Am I missing something?

The agitator on this model should just pull up, but it can be very difficult to do so. The service manual recommends using pull hooks if it is hard. Be very careful, if you are pulling up on it you can strain your body, or if it lets go quickly you can smash your face.

Agitator

  1. Open loading door.
  2. Remove agitator by placing hands under agitator lip
    and pull upward, if agitator is stuck or stubborn use
    two agitator hooks, No. 254P4P, under bottom edge
    of agitator.
