Started arcing last nite when son was heating up some spaghetti, I looked at it this morning, and the waveguide cover inside the microwave has a pretty good size whole in it… can i replace the waveguide cover or do i have to buy a new micowave?
You should be able to replace the cover.
But before doing so you will need to pull the
cover off and check the metal wave guide itself.
Its the hole that goes through the top of the oven
underneath the cover.
The wave guide may be perfectly fine. But
if it has a hole in it or is severely damaged then
you would have to go microwave shopping. This
is because the waveguide is not a separate part
and is part if the inner cavity itself. However
if the surface of the waveguide just has carbon
on it then you may be able to clean it and
replace the waveguide cover and you should be good
to go. Make sure you clean "all" of the carbon off or
the problem will reoccur. The metal surface of the
wave guide could be painted. If it is then you would
need to touch up any bare metal spots created by the sparks
with some appliance paint.
