After years of loud squealing the motor on my tall tub, plastic lined Whirlpool finally gave up the ghost. It fills and times through the cycles, pumps out, but does not spray or clean the dishes. I did not replace it sooner, because it still cleaned the dishes very well and I just left the room and turned up the TV. Now I am hoping to replace it myself. After reading tips, I have decided to replace the entire pump and motor assembly. My thinking is that the motor died because something was leaking into it, and by replacing the whole assembly, whatever leaked will also be replaced. By now you have probably guessed that I am a rookie. I only do this as I really have to pinch the pennies. Now I am searching for the replacement parts. I see that #8535150 is the part issued by Whirlpool. I came across the motor kit #8194160 (this is the recall replacement motor kit) and am wondering if it is the same, but with recall information added. Can I use the 8194160 instead of 8535150? I can get the 8194160 kit at a much cheaper price.

Thanks for the response Gene, I had already ordered the part and saved about 100.00. They looked alike, but the rubber seal is different. The replacement part I bought had the seal glued on, so I ended up pulling the motor off the new part and using it with the old parts of the sump and pump. Finally got it all together and dishwasher is running. Don’t think I would have elected to do this job, if I knew in advance what I was getting into. Husband had to eat his words though, and sure is cheaper that a new dishwasher.
