We have a 1.5-year old Nexxt 500 dryer that is broken.
The unit stopped working 15 minutes into the 20-minute timed cycle with the gentle heat level selected. The load was a small one. When my wife opened the door the clothes were VERY hot. Remember, this was with the gentle setting and with a simple timed setting that would not involve the moisture sensor.
We let the unit cool down for about an hour and after that all we could get it to do is illuminate the panel. If you select the no-heat setting and turn it on all you get is a modest click from the panel. If you select one of the heat settings you get that click, and then get a somewhat louder click a second later. That’s it. (The first click probably is for motor voltage and the second is probably for the heater element.) The relays are obviously getting voltage to operate, but the 240-volt feed that they are supposed to deal with appears to not be there. Something upstream is not allowing the feed.
A technician from a local shop (the one that sold it to us) worked on it for over an hour this week and seemed baffled. He studied the schematic but got nowhere. Supposedly, he is having the manual downloaded at the store, but he had not gotten back to us for four days. The unit may be too complex for him.
The six-foot vent pipe is clean and has been clean, and we being without kids, the unit gets little use compared to what a large family would be doing.
I have worked with electricity and electronics for years (was a technician in the USAF and have fooled with audio gear for years, having published and edited several books on the topic, and also published over 200 magazine articles), so I am aware of how schematics look and how machinery operates. However, I would still like to stick with the technician, since the parts are still under warranty. However, if anybody here has suggestions I can pass the info on to the technician when he finally returns.
