I just bought this refrigerator from a second hand store brought it home plugged it up. Didnt hear the fan at first but did after a few minutes. Had it plugged up for a couple of hours and it did not cool, noticed a strong odor of freon.
Hello Tressa,
You are probably smelling compressor oil as freon is odorless, colorless, and tasteless. If it is leaking freon, compressor oil will leak a bit at the source of the leak. This will make an oily place around the leaking area, making the leak "findable". If it is indeed a freon leak, the unit probably isn’t financially feasible to repair.
