Whirlpool electric range - Broiler element is not coming on. Everything else works. Tested element for continuity and it looked ok. No visible defects in the element. Tested thermal fuse and no continuity, so I assume it is bad. Used jumper wire across thermal fuse but broiler still does not work. Should jumper work? What should I check next?
When I first went to remove the element to test it, I still had the power on. One of the wires shorted out on the metal wall, the element got very hot in my hand for a second, and it blew the circuit breaker.
Also, it looks like the motor for the door latch is burnt…it is all brownish black and looks like the burned coloration is even on the wires and light socket below the motor. Could the motor be affecting the broiler coming on? I did not try self clean cycle to see if the door locks.
