About a month ago, I replaced the heating element to my Whirlpool dryer. Everything seemed fine and dandy until just the other day when the dryer quit heating again. I checked my vent and everything was just fine there.
However, when I removed the back panel, I found that one of the wires going to my heating element was burned/melted [Diagram A].
Also, when I tested my heating element with an Ohmmeter - it didn’t work out at the leads but, one of them is burned from the wire [Diagram B]. However, when I tested the coils directly [at Diagram C], the ohmmeter indicates that everything is fine.
The only other thing I noticed was some discoloration on part of the heating element [Diagram D].
This wire was overheated due to a loose connection between the wire terminal and the heating element terminal. This overheating caused damage to the heating element terminal as well.
The best solution in such situation is to replace the heating element and fix the wire using the element connecting wire.
