Burnt Wire

My oven stopped heating. I turned off the circuit breaker then went to remove the bake element and noticed that one of the wire connectors was not connected. I pulled the back off the oven and noticed that the connector was burnt and around 1 inch of the wire was also burnt. The bake element still looks good except it is a little black where the connector slides on. Should I cut the wire and put a new connector on and try it or should I call a service repair person? Thanks.

Clean up the end of the element, put on a new terminal on the wire and your back in business!!!

Be sure to cut the wire back till you get nice clean copper.

Also the new connector should be rated for high current.

I put a new connector on. Worked for a while. It burnt up again. What now?

At this stage, I would replace the element and install a new terminal on the wire, Make SURE the new terminal is installed correctly and has a TIGHT connection on the new element!!!

Where can I find a connector rated for a high currrent? The one I used was for low voltage (something I had in the garage). The connector was fine but it burnt the wire off again. Can I take the element to get it tested or would that matter?
