Can=t open control panel to replace light switch

Refrigerator cabinet light switch is jammed–won’t turn off light. Can’t open the control housing unit at the top of the cabinet to see inside. When I pull the four screws along the front edge, the front of the unit drops, but the rear stays attached by something/some screw I can’t find. GE Drawing Reference No. is 609 and Part No. is WR23S10089. What screws am I not finding?

You should be able to remove that switch from the front with out removing the housing. Take a look at the picture of your switch http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?image=1&part_id=2067721&pn_=WR23X10089

You should be able to press in on the clips with a screwdriver and remove the switch.

I can pull the switch out just so far; then I get resistance and am afraid to get rough. As per the diagram, the switch plugs in inside somehow. Don’t know how to unplug it without being able to see or feel what I’m doing.

Are you getting the switch past the clips?

The wire might not be long enough to pull the switch out in which case you will need to remove the housing. I don’t know your particular situation but normally I replace this type of switch as I describe in my first post.

I was looking at the parts breakdown and I am not sure what holds the back of that housing on. You might have to remove the arm on the back of the housing #1036 and maybe even the air duck on the back.
