So, i’m looking for confirmation of my suspicion from an experienced eye.
My compressor works. Freezer works fine. The Refrigerator section, when the door is opened, makes a clicking noise which stops when the door is closed or the door switch is depressed. Also, when the fridge door is opened, the lights indicating temp settings do not turn on, the light flickers with the clicking.
Here’s a youtube video showing my problem.
What I’ve tried:
- cleaning the coils
- defrost for 24 hours
after some research, i’m thinking i need to replace the circuit board. at first i was thinking i needed to change the starter relay, but the clicking caused by a broken starter relay seems to be different than my type of clicking.
can anyone confirm that I need to replace the circuit board, or point me in a better direction?
Thanks,
Stan
HELLO.
Unfortunately Whirlpool doesn’t give us clear idea how to test the control inside the refrigerator.
Chances are about even, but I would suggest to replace the control box located inside the refrigerator.
If that wouldn’t work than, replace the main control board.
You can return any unused parts even if they been installed.

Post the results and good luck.
Just received the control box and board. replaced box first. did not fix problem. replaced board. fridge works fine now. I went back and put my original control box back in, and the fridge works properly.
the control board has one small scorch mark where you can see a severed connection. do you guys want that to refurb and resell?
I’ll be returning the control box, so let me know if you want the bad board as well.
Thanks for your help,
Stan
