Compressors runs but doesn't cool well

Fridge is 5-6 yrs old and just stopped cooling well. Compressor and fan turn on but the evaporator coils are getting only slightly cold. The Compressor gets warm and so do the copper connections to it. Nothing gets cold, nothing gets hot. Did it somehow loose it freon or is there such thing as a compressor that suddenly got weak but still works? I haven’t a clue what to do at this point and a Service Call would not be fun right now. Thank you, please.

Seems like a bad compressor/refrigerant leak problem, I see a lot of these Amana’s with similar problems. Assuming the compressor is running and warming the condenser coil and not shutting down on it’s overload, the only way to confirm nature of is with an amprobe and gauges.

Thank you so much for the response. It wouldn’t be too difficult to run a ‘suicide cord’ from the outlet to the refrg’s plug with a meter in series. How much current should I expect to see if compressor is fully engaged?

All the modern R134A compressors run between 1,2 amp and 1.8. Like 9 amp if the compressor fails to start and .5 amp if it is not pumping refrigerant. If compressor with bad windings or short, 20 or higher.

Thank you very much!
