An authorized service technician evaluated the problem and said the control board needed to be replaced. He said that I could "easily" replace the board, KitchenAid part #221536. This part is replaced with part #4389211. The replacement part was ordered and received. The replacement part is a different configuration than the original in both dimensions and connectors. In essence, it will not fit in the control board enclosure and the connectors are not the same as the original. I checked the main control wiring harness and found that this also has a replacement part from the original. I spoke with KitchenAid and couldn’t provide any information regarding the board or harness replacement. Everyone I spoke with said that the board I received is the correct replacement. Instructions received with the board basically said to turn the power off, replace the board, and turn the power on. But, the connectors don’t fit. Do I need to replace the wiring harness in order to install the replacement board and how difficult is this?
I can’t believe that KitchenAid would replace the board with something that doesn’t fit (form and connectors) without providing more detail information and/or providing all that is necessary (i.e., wiring harness) in order to change the board. Also, I can’t find a repair person who is familiar with the problems associated with the control board and possibly the harness.
