The fridge will run for a random period of time. I will open the fridge door and the lights are off, the control panel is lit up and showing me the dialed in numbers 4 fridge 4 freezer (recomended settings), but it is not cooling anymore.
The main control board in the back of the fridge has been replaced and it solved the original problem which was similar. Fridge lights off, control panel lights off, and fridge not cooling. The freezer light always turns on.
My original repairman has given up. I decided to replace the bi-metal defrost thermostat because i felt there was too much build up. It is a little cleaner now, but still not the root problem.
My part has arrived and i had a moment of panic.
Removal of the old part went well until i reached the difusser arm. I disconnected it at the screw for beginners and removed the rest of the unit first.
I figure i could either use the old part here since it was mechanical or give it a twist into the fridge and lift up. I did the later and even swapped arms carefully putting items back the way the found them. I confirmed the diffusser door opened closed as the freezer knob was turned.
There was a plug with 2 wires that was not used on the original so like the original i taped the end for safety and neatly tucked it away.
I did notice there is a huge feorite core on this new unit that my old unit did not have.
I plugged in the fridge and it ran through some diagnostic it looked like. I sat both dials to default 4 and 4. I never heard the fridge kick on to start cooling. I started to panic a little and then decided to unplug it again. I left dials at 4 4 and waited a minute. This time when i plugged it in it turned on and started cooling.
Now to see if this actually was the problem or if it will do it again in a week or 2. (sometimes it only a few days)
I will post here that it is still running strong with the hopes it wont break down after saying this today. It seems the overall problem was the lower control board and this upper control panel. As pointed out this newer control panel has a ferite core around some of the wires which may help remove some extra noise in the electrical lines causing my final issue.
