I went to make some soup tonight and my cooktop wouldn’t turn on at all. None of the burners turned on and the air also wouldn’t turn on on the unit. We also tried to trip the circuit breaker to the house for the stove/whole kitchen actually and turned it back on to see if the problem was there and still it won’t turn on at all. What would cause this? Is it something that I am able to fix on my own or will I need to call a repairman in to to this?
Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times. Sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker.
Check the voltage at the plug. Your unit is probably hard wired.l
L1 to L2 should be 240 volts
L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts.
If OK
Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out
If OK
Check the power at the terminal strip.
Do this with the heater off and on.
Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!!
