Cost to repair Whirlpool Duet?

My washer was purchased in 12/2004. It has gone through the F-DL and F11 codes. I’ve just dealt with it. Today it was running and I hear a loud knocking. I went to check and smelled burning plastic and stopped it. I found that the metal basket/was basin is separated from the white plastic that is is normally attached. I think this may fall under the "limited ten year warranty".

My question is to anyone that can answer is even if I’m able to get the necessary parts from Whirlpool can anyone give me a ballpark figure on what this costs to repair? It may be worth purchasing a new washer especially with the F-DL and F11 still looming and all the problems I see here associated with this washer.

Thanks in advance.

You have gotten 8 years of service out of this model. When they work they work great but they are very hard to diagnose and I suggest you could yourself lucky to have had the 8 years and replace it.

If you do not need a front loader I suggest a basic top loader. Make sure it has mechanical rather than computer controls for reasons you are now familiar with.

Thanks for your reply and advice. We are replacing the washer. My wife wants all the bells/whistles…If it is under warranty I was going to get it fixed and see if a relative could use it or sell it. I was just trying to get an idea of the cost. I understand that when it was spinning it could have broken other things. I figured labor on it would be $500 or greater. But that is an uneducated guess when it comes to appliance repair.

Replacement is the right thing. Labor may not be that much, but it is probably a case of getting ready to throw money after money at it.

Good luck
