Hello,
New here, so please forgive any mistakes.
I have an GX5FHDXTQ00 bottom freezer Whirlpool.
Recently I experienced the COLD Freezer / Warm Refrigerator syndrome and had I listened to "internet" how too’s I perhaps would have replaced a working part.
Visual inspection yielded a verification of unusual amount of ice in the rear of the freezer compartment.
First I checked the evaporator heater (defrost heater) and it showed 28 Ohms, or "shows good".
The defrost thermostat seems to work fine as long as it is at 20 F (dipping in ice water did not trip the bi-metal) I first used a can of air (inverted) and that tripped the bi metal, and then I placed it in a working freezer and it also tripped (closed contacts) and it opened when taken out. I wished I hadn’t cut the defrost thermostat out to check it, but I guess I wouldn’t have known for sure. I suppose the bi-metal thermostat could be out of tolerance, I know it supposed to close at 20F
I checked the evaporator motor and it is also good. I am not sure how to test the damper door, but even when the unit was running warm, I could feel some air flow through the output vent in the refrigerator compartment.
All this long and drawn out post is to ask what might be wrong with my unit. It was certainly iced up. The drain also appears to working.
I have my refrigerator in pieces and I am scratching my head. At this point
I am hopeful that someone that knows about this model may have had similar issues so that I may resolve mine as well.
