Dishwasher Thermostat Wires

Hi,

I am replacing the motor/pump assembly on our Maytag dishwasher. I forgot to mark down which wires go where on the built in thermostat. There is a black wire and a white wire. Does it matter which wire goes to which post on the thermostat? Thanks.
