Our dishwasher hasn’t been draining well for awhile and has been coming out of the overflow valve. Now, it is leaking onto the floor. I’m assuming we need to check for a clog in the hose, but need directions on how to go about doing this. Please advise! Thanks!

You have to join the site to download the manual but it is free and this is a very good site for manuals and other info for the appliance repair DIYer.
I would start at the house plumbing.
Undo the drain hose there and check for debris.
This is a common place for stuff to catch.
If OK
Then move to the pump and clean/check it.
How exactly do we go about disconnecting the drainage hose from the dishwasher? We are not handy people at all, but don’t really want to call someone out to service it if it’s a simple clog in the line.
Should be held on with a clamp.
Do the end at the hose plumbing first.
then let this drain into a container as you want to get as much water as possible out of the unit before removing the drain hose at the pump end.
You may have to sponge or siphon or use a turkey baster to remove the water from the tub.
Otherwise there will be water everywhere.
Since you say that you are not handy it may be best to call in a pro.
You need some mechanical ability to work on these things.
