I have this washer dryer combo that was built in 92’ and the other day I noticed that it was making more noise than normal. When I took out my clothes from the dryer they had all of these little gray/black marks on them and some of the things in there looked like the were melted. I took all of the clothes out and started the dryer and it was still making excessive noise, not really loud, but more than normal. I then looked at the drum that spins inside the dryer and it seems to have a lot more play in it than it should. I can lift the drum if I push up on it. I came to the conclusion that the clothes have been getting caught where the drum meets the front and back of the dryer (if that makes sense, I don’t know how else to describe it) and the rotation of the drum is wearing through the clothing when it gets caught in there and it is leaving the gray/black marks.
So I’m thinking it is either the rollers that hold the drum in place or the bearings on the motor shaft are going bad. I am an electrician not a appliance tech so I’m not sure how the drum is supported. If I knew what parts to replace I am confident that I can do the job.
Any input would be greatly appreciated, we have a baby and we use cloth diapers so having a dryer is a big need in our household.
UPDATE
I looked at the drum roller and it was just hanging there, the sheet metal bracket that holds the roller will no longer hold the roller on there. The hole that holds the pin for the roller is now too big, it wore a bigger hole in the bracket, so it looks like I need that bracket, but I can’t find it on the parts break down…
Any ideas?
