dryer heats,but does not turn

dryer had been working fine today after several loads.now the dryer will not turn, but heats up.the drum spins freely by hand.when i hit the start button,i hear a click in the back.all lights on front panel seem to work as usual.any ideas?

thanks,i will give that a try.

i checked the belt, and it looks fine.while dismantling the dryer i found a diagnostic sheet.i ran a diagnostic on it and found one fault code.it says "INlet thermistor shorted".is this something that will cause my problem or do i have more than one problem? Thanks for any help:confused:

You could have a thermister issue. But, Let me see if I understand you correct. when you turn the dryer on, the motor runs, but the drum does not turn, or is it dead. Tom %url%

thanks for the reply.the heat works, but the motor does not turn on.the belt is fine and the drum spins freely.the thermistor fault code was the only code that came up.i emailed the webmaster at the website that was in your last post.

replace the thermister then. It is in the back and has two wires coming to it. Tom

Jump out the thermal fix. It is # 48 on the bulkhead diagram, and see if it works. If so, do not run it that way. This is for testing only. Tom http://www.applianceeducator.com

what does jump thermal fix mean.unplug the wires?in studying the spec sheet…this is the item that the fault code refers to.i took this part to a local parts supply and they said they do not stock this part because they do not go bad.a technician is coming tomorrow at 1pm.i guess i’ll try to disconnect and run assuming that’s what you meant.thanks for the help.

Just to add my 2 cents…

The inlet thermistor is a part of the high limit thermostat assembly and there not suppose to be any heat at all if the thermistor is bad.

The major problem in my opinion is: the dryer heats up while the motor is not running. The cause of this problem could be: a bad (shorted) motor centrifugal switch or a heating element shorted to ground. It’s easy to diagnose with a simple Ohmmeter.

Here is the Tech sheet.

i just replaced the thermal fuse because when i bypassed it the dryer started working.i noticed the heating element glowed cherry red and it did not do that when i had the problem.i think it heated, but not as hot as it is now.one concern is …i see the heating element does not get red all the way around…only about two thirds around.does that mean the element is broken and should be replaced?

It’s hard to say without seeing the heating element. You have to pull it out and inspect the coils.

thanks for the reply.does that get pulled out from the front (whirlpool WES9200SQ0)?thanks:)

You probably can access it by removing the toe panel.

thanks for all the help!!
