My electric dryer knocks while it is spinning. The knock is coming from the top middle to the top right side. It is not a constint knock. It is loud sometimes and faint sometimes. Also how can I remove the top to view and or repair the area of the knocking. Thanks to anyone who responds. Jim
Thanks for the tip. But I dont see any screws after opining the door. Not above the door or inside. The drum is flush with the inside walls. Any other thoughts? Thanks.
You need a putty knife, there are 2 spring clips to release to get the top off. As your looking at the dryer about 2-3 inches from the edge on eachside, slide your putty knife in. You will feel where the spring clips are. Push the knife in on one side and you’ll feel the top release, do the same for the other side and it comes right off.
The clips are at the front of the dryer as your looking at it.
I got it badfish. After I took the screws out to remove the front, the bowl seperated from the front revealing a small metal piece of my daughters bathing suit that was stuck in the molding that pieces the bowl and the front together. I removed the piece of metal, put it all back together and it isent making any more noise. Thanks for your help. I couldent have done it without you getting me started with taking the top off. Have a good day. Jim
When i first start the dryer it runs great for a couple of minutes. then is starts making a banging noise and vibrating as if it has lots of shoes in it. it then smells like something getting hot.
I am leaning towards a problem with your rear roller set or with the idler pulley. I think the smell is the motor overheating and trying to turn the drum against the resistance of the bad rollers or idler.
Take the dryer apart and examine each of these parts, in fact, they are not expensive so I would replace both and see if that fixes things.
Good luck.
