This Maytag dryer makes a loud squealing noise on start up, but goes away after a few minutes. Looking at the site it could be the blower wheel assembly, or the drum rollers, or even the motor and belt. Wanted to get some guidance on where to start, and an idea on how big of a job it is to fix any of these items.
Thanks in advance, really appreciate this forums assistance in the past,
I would start by replacing the belt, idler assembly and rollers and see if that does not fix your problem. This is good maintenance, so even if it were not needed this is a good and inexpensive thing to do.
Be sure and clean out all the lint inside the dryer, particularly the internal vent and then the external vent.
Here is the service manual which will show you how to get into it. This is a fairly easy job as fixes go, so take your time and you should not have any trouble.
I have an LDG9900 that does the same thing. However, now it doesn’t stop squealing. As suggested, I replaced the belt and rollers, and put in new seals around the tub. I forgot to replace the idler pulley. However, I disconnected the belt, so there is no force on the idler pulley and it still makes the noise. I’ve also cleaned out the blower (which is fairly new). How can I tell if it is the motor, bearings in the mounting housing, blower shaft, etc. ? I’d rather not replace the motor if it’s something else. Thanks.
