Dryer not working

My dryer is a GE Estate dryer by Whirlpool. It will turn on and get hot, but the drum won’t turn, and the dryer makes no noises sounding like it is attempting to start no matter the cycle I try to put it in. Please help! This dryer is not that old (3 years maybe) and we’ve already had a heating coil problem in it the first year that we were able to replace.

Thanks,
Jill

Hi Jmccal

This is not supposed to happen, your dryer should not allow the heating element to come on unless the motor is running and the dryer is turning.

You need to determine if the problem is the belt or the motor.

Take out the two screws under the lint filter lid, and then pop up the top from the front.

If you belt is ok, you need to try and start the dryer and see if the motor is operating. If it is, the drum may be hung up in some way, but more likely the problem is in the motor.

Good luck, let us know what you find out.

We took the top off, and there’s appears to be nothing wrong with the belt when we turn the drum manually to look at it. When we start the dryer absolutely nothing happens. No sounds - no click other than that of the start button being pushed in. We might as well have it unplugged except that you can see and feel the heating element heat up.

No we haven’t. But if that was the case I don’t think the heating element would be working either and it heats up just fine even though the dryer would turn the drum or actually start the cycle.

Hi Jill

Sorry you have had trouble with this machine, it is usually one of the more reliable products.

If your drum turns and the belt is not broken the problem is that your motor is not turning the drum. What worries me is that the heat is coming on. As a safety feature this is not supposed to happen if the motor has not come on and turning the drum.

The likely problem is that there is a problem in your motor wiring, in which case the motor will have to be replaced. First remove the drum and make certain everything looks ok, particularly the wiring and if so a new motor may solve your problem.

Good luck, hope that fixes it.

I have an 2003 Amana #BCI20T bottom freezer refrigerator. The freezer is just cold and will not freeze anything. No frost on the coils. Replaced the thermostat part #10442411 which was covered in ice. I dropped it just before instillation, hope this did not effect it. It still isn’t freezing. I do have part # P1309702WL the timer defrost however, I do not know where to install it. The fan is working. Before I installed the thermostat part I could put a bag of ice in the freezer area and it would last me a few days. Now when I put a bag of ice in it starts to melt and only last one day. I have seemed to made more of a problem. Help me to get my freezer to work.
