WE HAVE A MAYTAG DRYER THAT IS STARTS, RUNS, THEN EITHER STOPS MIDCYCLE OR AFTER COMPLETING A CYCLE WILL NOT RESTART:confused: . AFTER A CYCLE IF WE PRESS THE START BUTTON, ALL WE GET IS A HUM FROM THE MOTOR THEN THERE IS A CLICK AND THEN NOTHING. FROM THAT POINT, WE HAVE TO WAIT A FEW MINUTES BEFORE IT WILL DO ANYTHING AT ALL AGAIN. I TOOK IT ALL APART, AND VACUUMED THE LINT, ETC FROM IT AND ATTEMPTED TO LUBRICATE THE MOTOR SHAFT IT WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT TWO DAYS AND THEN DEAD AGAIN. THE TUB WILL SPIN ON ITS OWN. IF THERE IS ANYONE WITH ANY INPUT, I WOULD REALLY REALLY APPRECIATE IT!! THANKS IN ADVNCE TERRY:)
Check the motor for lateral play in the bushings.
Gene, thanks for the advice about not trying to re-thread. I found the part on the GE website for the $25 plus about 9 for shipping/handling and tax. I will call GE about them paying for the part. Thanks for the quick response.

I purchased a new seal from you and am in the process of installing it. Does it need to be glued in, the old one seem s to be ? What type of glue can I use ?
Hi Liz,
Yes, you were right - it has to be glued in.
You can use the hi-temp adhesive made by Maytag especially for such purpose.
- The part number for the hi-temp adhesive is AP3970861
Gene.
Open the control panel, remove old thermostat install the new one, making sure you attach the wires and place the other lead around exactly the way the old one came out.
