I think it might be your motor not starting. Either the motor’s start switch is stuck in the "run" position or the motor’s bearings have gotten too tight and the motor can’t start.

If you take the dryer apart, down to the motor, you can see if its easy to turn it or if its very tight or hard to turn by hand. Probably the motor is bad.

If you have the serial number you can look up the right part number for your machine, but its probably this motor.

I have worked on over 300 dryers over the last few years both gas and electric. I have found that when a drum /motor will not start the drum to turn especially with a load of heavy wet clothes the motor is going bad. I dont know why for sure but suspect the original motor does not have a good torque rise when it is energized and the starting torque needed with a load of heavy wet clothes is more than the motor can produce. The motor bearings are likely to blame since they get worn and much dirt is ingested causing drag. The centrifugal start switch sticking can be a factor but I have freed those up and it made no difference. The lower priced Amana and some other models are prone to have this problem. I replaced a motor yesterday in an Amana electric dryer with this problem. The bearings were starting to bind up. No way to lube those for sure even when the motor is removed. I have tried it and since they are sealed bearings it usually does not work or if it does the problem repeats itself very soon
