Dryer Thermister

The dryer runs and does not heat. I tested the thermister for continuity and it did not have continuity. I ordered a new thermister. When it arrived I tested it and it did not have continuity either.

I have been under the understanding that it has to have continuity to work, am I mistaken?

No you are correct.
Are you sure that you were using the correct resistance scale on your meter?
The thermistor is up around 10,000 ohms so the 200 and 2K scales on a meter will show it as an open.
