Dryer turns off

The dryer turns itself off within minutes when running on timed dry with heat. It used to do it when running on high heat, then on medium, now also on low. However it heats up high even on a low setting (which is fine by me, as I like to dry most of my clothes on high heat). When I start another timed drying cycle right after the dryer stopped, it starts again fine and then often stops within a minute. I can also usually just continue, although about third of the time, it won’t continue, possibly cause it is too hot (the clothes feel really hot then). I usually have to restart the dryer many times to get my clothes to dry. If I run it on ‘air only’ there is no problem - it continues to the end of cycle.

I’m guessing that I need to replace a thermostat but I’m not certain. Any input appreciated.

Thanks

When is the last time you had your dryer vent system completely cleaned? Delinted!
Over heating can occur due to a clogged dryer vent (fire hazard as well) and cause your symptoms.

Thermister = cycling the gas heater on and off from about 160 -165ish degrees to 125-130ish degrees.
Hi-Limit thermostat = Like a thermal fuse once popped must be replaced

Thank you for responding. I cleaned out the vent system this morning - it was not clogged. I took the vent pipe off from the back and vacuumed inside. The issue with dryer stopping is still there. I’ll go with replacing Thermister next. It does not sound like Hi-limit thermostat, since the heat comes on just fine.
