Dryer won't heat

My dryer starts and runs- gets WARM so assume the heating unit ignites -but will not get hot enough to dry clothes in a reasonable time --what do i need to do ? Please help

The fact that it heats at first makes me think you have some weak or bad solenoids. An easy fix. The solenoids will work when cold but after the initial heating they get hot and short out. I recently worked on one of these and did a video.

Remove the access door (#8 at the diagram) and watch how the flame goes on and off.

Does it ignite every time when the igniter glows?

How long it stays on and off?

Post the results.

Thank you so much! Have ordered the part – keeping fingers crossed it will work – if not will be back with more questions
Thanks again

May I ask you which part did you ordered?

Coil Kit for dryer Gas Valve -part AP3094251(279834)-hope i got the right one --Thank you for the help !

Unfortunately this part number is wrong. This is the newer style of coils while your dryer is very old and you have to order the older coil kit. It comes with the installation instructions. You can return the parts you ordered by mistake.

P.S. JW Webster did not have time to check the breakdown diagrams for this model.

Does yours have the plug in type or the older wire in type? Both are shown in the diagram.

Note: IF yours has the old timey 3 wire style you MUST stack the 3 exactly as the original coils. Failure to do so it will not work right. If yours is the newer style plug in type then easy peasy.

Got the part today -WE do have the plugin type --we installed it --it works but still does not get hot enough -and si taking too long to dry --what else should we check ??
Thanks

Make sure the dryer vent is clean all the way out, including the vent outlet. Check the blower wheel. Make sure it’s not slipping.

Gene.

WE have already cleaned everything --The blower wheel is not slipping – could it be the sensors?/ how do we check them – ??

Watch the flame through the access door, as I recommended earlier, and post the results.

Gene.

WE watched --it will come on - for a few seconds -go off --then will come back on then go off --never staying on long enough to really heat the drum -only get warm
–eventually the clothes will dry but it takes about 3 or 4 hours

Disconnect the vent hose on the back of the dryer and run a load.

If the drying time will be shorter, then there is air flow restriction somewhere.

If the drying time will be the same, replace the high limit thermostat (#23 at the diagram).

Gene.

Thank you ! we are repalcing the high limit thermostat (#23 at the diagram).

 • You have been a tremendous help – if this dosen’t work i will be back --I do love this dryer!
