We have a GE profile dryer, model DPSR610EGWT, about 7 years old, that basically "heats when it wants to" as of late. It will run fine for a while and then the heat just stops. It seems to happen more when its been running several cycles on heavy laundry days. Occasional drying it seems to do better. Much of the time if we simply turn the dryer off and wait an hour or 2, it will work fine again. This happens on the auto sense dry as well as manual timed cycles. I have already installed a brand new heating element, but that proved to be not the issue. I’ve taken it apart and completely cleaned out ductwork, as I’ve read where air flow can affect it. So that’s been ruled out. I’m seeing some references to one of the thermostats being bad. I believe ours has 3 different ones. I have not run continuity tests yet as I am not sure that’s the issue, or if it will even be accurate. If it intermittently works, wouldn’t the thermostats likely pass a continuity test when the dryer is cold (as I’m told the dryer should be cool before doing the tests) ? Only after several cycles does the dryer give issues, so I’m not sure taking this thing apart yet again to run a test is going to prove anything. I don’t want to start guessing at which thermostat is bad and throwing more money at it. Before I delve into taking it apart again, wanted to see if anyone on here might have a better idea of whether this is a thermostat issue, and which one is faulty and if I should expect the continuity test to pass based on the dryer’s intermittent behavior? nobody has any idea? really could use help. yesterday the damn thing ran for almost 3 hours, as we got sidetracked and forgot to check it, only to find it still running completely cold with still wet laundry. If I don’t figure this out, I’m dragging it out back and introduce it to my pet Ruger.
