electrical connections for GE oven igniter

baking oven was not working, but the stove top and broil was working. oven igniter did not turn on. got the replacement igniter WB2X9154 and managed to unscrew the old igniter. now the instructions with the pkg says to discard the old connectors. my old igniter had two types of connectors from the two cables; one is a nylon style crimp-on type connector (couldn’t find a replacement in local Radio Shack) and the other is a spade lug.
Based on the instructions, I would have to take off both the male-female nylon connector and the spade lug, then wire-nut the new igniter cable with the old cable. I started by taking off the male nylon connector from the old igniter. But then I read somewhere else that I could leave the old connectors in, cut off the old igniter and wire-nut the old cable with the cable from the new igniter (essentially have two joints per cable). Should I do that (not sure if I can put back the nylon connector I took off already) or should I take off all the old connectors and simply use wire-nut to connect the new cable to the old cable (essentially then have only one joint)?
In this forum I read ‘if the new plug differs from the old, cut off the plug and use the ceramic wire nuts’.
which one is the safest method? please advise. thanks for your help!
