Hello. I have a Whirlpool Duet front load washer. The fabric dispenser drawer fills up with water after each load and I have to take the tray out to empty the water before putting fabric softner back in. HELP! 
That stuff is very gunky and I suspect it has gunked up the line from the fabric softener drawer to the tub. Try cleaning it out and see if that doesn’t fix things.
