fills but won't start wash cycle

Machine fills and then I can hear the timer click, but nothing happens from there. If I hold the cancel button, it does pump the water out. It won’t work in rinse and spin cycle either. It’s only 1 1/2 years old, kept in garage. Any thoughts on what part is failing.
