Food chopper

My wife complained for two years that the dishwasher leaves the dishes dirtier than when she put them in. She didn’t tell me that she couldn’t hear the water coming out of the spray arms. When I checked it a few times, I thought that it was alright. I was hearing the drain pump! I took it apart finally and found that the food chopper had come off of its shaft and had a chunk broken out of it. The screen was plugged with food, and the start windings in the motor were burned out. I ordered the replacement pump and sump assembly from this site and installed it, and it works like new again! My question is: my daughter has the same dishwasher and the pump is working, but she gets dirty dishes also. I told her that the screen probably is plugged up like mine was. If it is, can we just remove the chopper and screen and run without it? That part just cost me $180. I don’t think that my old Whirlpool had a chopper and it was still working fine after 24 years. It is sitting in my garage waiting to be used by someone again.
