Freezer won't freeze

Freezer recently began warming up…it won’t go below 25 degrees…fridge section seems ok.
No ice buildup except for top of defrost thermstat.

I’ve cleaned all dust buildup at bottom of the refrigerator

Unit was not cycling off for many weeks…recent electric bill was VERY high.

Fan in rear is fine, compressor is warm and seems to be running/humming normally.

Just let unit thaw overnight and now fan in freezer is not spinning and unit doesn’t seem cold at all!

HELP!

Hi,

Sounds like a sealed system problem. Either a refrigerant leak or the compressor is week.

With the age of it you may just want to look for a new one.

Update: I metered the defrost timer and 1 and 3 circuit failed the continuity test. Could this contribute and/or fix my problem? I’d much rather spend a little money than replace my entire fridge…

Thank you!

Second Update: Removed coil cover in freezer - fan was blowing fine but only the top 3 rows of coils were frosty and cold…does this help confirm that I’ve possibly got a low coolant problem? Thanks Again

Confirms that you have a sealed system problem. Low on refrigerant, restriction in the capillary tube or a week compressor.

To correctly troubleshoot it I would solder on some valves so I could attach some gauges to see what the pressures read.
