Fridge and freezer sections same temp (Warm)

Friend gave me fridge, got it home cleaned it up, plugged it in and here’s what its doing:
Compressor will not come on, freezer and refrigerator same temp with evap fan running in freezer section, condenser coils clean and condenser fan not operating… What could the problem be? Thanks for your help. Rich Ward Rich for Model Number FRS26H5ASB5

Update since 11:30 last night:

This condition went on for like I want to say 2hrs, left it plugged in went to bed, woke up at 5am checked fridge and its now cooling, freezing water in the freezer and cooling water in the fridge section, Was doing some research could the unit have been in defrost mode? Seems like a long time to be in defrost mode…

How long does a unit stay in defrost mode?

Is there some other part or parts I need to check if this happens again? Manufacture date on this unit is 5/03 so it’s old but the interior and exterior is in great shape.

Seems to be working fine at the moment, what are some common items that go bad on a unit of this age?

Plan to garage fridge for drinks, frozen foods etc…(it’s not the primary fridge.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Rich, if it’s working now then watch it for awhile. Use thermometers to record temps. Your model from the description shows a mechanical temp control but an adaptive defrost control. Just ignore how the unit acted from startup but pay attention to how it’s working now. As for using it in the garage, I don’t know your location but if you’re in the northern part of the country and your garage will normally see 40° in the winter then don’t count on this fridge for keeping things frozen. Simply because if your garage is 40° during the winter then the compressor will not run like it would if in a room at 70°. The freezer will only maintain 20° if that. Okay for bread and ice but not good for meats or seafoods. Hope this info helps. cheers kooler
