I have a Fridgidaire side by side refrigerator, Model # FGHS2355PF5A, approximately 10 years old and obviously out of warranty. I’ve had no major issues with this refrigerator, it has served its purpose well, but now I have a small problematic issue inside the freezer.
Years of placing frozen meats in the upper freezer basket has caused the basket guide rails to sag. The basket sits on top of a plastic rails affixed to the cabinet sides with sheet metal screws attached to plastic grommets pressed into the sides of the freezer cabinet. The plastic grommets have pulled out of the right side wall (the wall immediately adjacent to the refrigerator) and the weight of the freezer basket is supported only by the sheet metal screws, as the grommets are no longer secured to the side wall.
Because the right side slide is canted down, the upper freezer basket falls off the glide rail and ends up sitting atop the lower freezer basket.
I need to replace the grommets and possibly the screws for the right side freezer basket support slide. Looking at the parts schematics for freezer shelves, I don’t see any parts that fit the grommet description.
Is there a replacement part number for the grommets? Or are these grommets non-serviceable parts? If I’m not mistaken, I should be able to pry the old ones out and glue new replacement grommets in place with silicone sealant. I should be good to go once the grommets are affixed and cured. If that is not the correct procedure, please let me know.
But most importantly, I need some help identifying the grommet part number. I just can’t find it in the Fridgidaire parts catalog for model FGHS2355PF5A.
Please note that I came across a post in another forum describing the exact same issue, but with a different Fridgidaire model. That poster noted that the shelf schematic showed the same size screws and grommets were specified for both the right and left basketball slides, but after disassembling his slides, he found that the grommets and screws for the left side slide were 1/4" longer than the right side grommets and screws and he had to return his replacement parts for the right side slide because they were too long and would not sit flush against the side wall of the freezer.
If anyone can help me out with this, I’d greatly appreciate this. I’ve attached photos along with the snapshot of the schematic. I need the grommets that are used to hold schematic part #51 to the freezer sidewall.
Thanks.
